UK says sorry for attack on Russian Paralympic team

Russian sitting volleyball coach Viktor Dyakov said a gun shot was fired at the bus carrying Russian athletes on Tuesday, the reports said.

The attack happened before a game with Morocco. A bullet hit the windscreen of the bus as it was approaching the ExCeL center which hosts the Paralympics.

“There was one shot. The bullet hit the window and it smashed,” said Dyakov noting that “the shot was intended for the driver”.

Russian Foreign Ministry said it had received apologies from the UK police on behalf of the British authorities.

“The Russian Embassy in Britain and the Russian Paralympic delegation are in close contact with the British law enforcement agencies with regard to the incident with the bus that was carrying the Russian volleyball team. The investigation is under way. We expect the police to provide official findings shortly”, Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Last month, Russia’s embassy in London was also attacked and a spokesperson for the Russian embassy said the British police “did not take any measures” to stop and detain the attackers.
