Assange will speak during UN gathering from Ecuadorian Embassy in London


WikiLeaks' creator Julian Assange is expected to speak publicly via satellite from London as the world's leaders are gathered at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Subway ads: A right to hate speech, a duty to condemn

Senate: 57 request pending for additional state creation

As part of its effort to restore peace and unity in the country, the Nigerian Senate had declared that they have acknowledged requests for more 57 new states in Nigeria.
 Although they are yet to mention the names of the states being requested, the Senate leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), confirmed it saying, “We have 57 requests pending before us for state creation. I know that people should know that they have to negotiate and lobby at least two thirds of the 36 states of the federation to get any section of the 1999 Constitution amended”

Aviation dispute halts Nigeria's airlines

A number of airlines in Nigeria have been ordered to stay grounded by the country's aviation authorities in a multimillion dollar dispute relating to aviation fees.
Thousands of passengers have been left stranded after Arik Air was shut down on Thursday in the latest in a string of airlines to be grounded because of financial irregularities and safety concerns.
Only two of Nigeria's nine domestic airlines are now flying, as others remained grounded over maintenance, financing or other problems.

Canada Deports soilder of four kids to US

A US Army female soldier who fled to Canada to avoid fighting in the Iraq war has been arrested in the US after the Canadian government ordered her deportation.
The War Resisters Support Campaign said that Kimberly Rivera was immediately arrested at the border at Gananoque, Ont. and transferred to US military custody.

Iran Navy plans to expand presence near South Pole

Iran’s Navy has launched plans to extend its presence in the international waters near the South Pole, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says.


“We have the capability to hoist Iran’s flags in different regions from the North Pole to the South Pole and we are preparing plans for presence near the South Pole,” Sayyari said on Friday.
